Residential Life

Students at TGA have the opportunity to live the scientific life in a community designed to inspire them to think differently and deeply about the world, while still providing the comfort and safety of a home environment.

Students live and learn in four cottages on the 100 acre campus of the Tennessee School for the Deaf, in the Island Home neighborhood of Knoxville on the banks of the Tennessee River. Two cottages house boys and two cottages house girls, with twelve students in each cottage. Students live in double-occupancy rooms, furnished with standard beds, desks, and dressers. Common space in each cottage includes a living room, dining room, laundry room, and two apartments for housing staff. Additionally, each cottage includes meeting space for courses offered at TGA.

TGA cottages are fully equipped with Internet connections – both wired and wireless – to allow students to move freely around the cottage as they work.
